Smart Lighting
Professional Smart Lighting Installation
Expert design, wiring, configuration and commissioning for new builds and retrofits - from initial consultation through to handover and ongoing support.
Why Professional Installation Matters
A smart lighting system is only as good as the planning and installation behind it. While off-the-shelf smart bulbs offer basic app control, a professionally installed lighting automation system delivers a fundamentally different experience - one where every fixture, sensor and switch works together as part of a single, unified system tailored to your home and lifestyle.
At Home Automate, our smart lighting installation service covers everything from initial design through to final programming and handover. Whether you're building a new home or upgrading an existing property, we handle the technical complexity so you can simply enjoy the result: effortless lighting that adapts to the way you live.

Bespoke Design
Every lighting design is created specifically for your property. We consider room dimensions, natural light, ceiling heights and how you use each space to produce a layout that delivers the right atmosphere everywhere.
Certified Expertise
Our engineers are certified installers for Loxone, KNX, Control4 and Lutron. This means your system is specified, installed and programmed to the manufacturer's highest standards.
Whole-Home Integration
Your lighting doesn't exist in isolation. We integrate it with heating, security, shading and audio so a single tap or voice command can orchestrate your entire home environment.
Aftercare & Support
Our relationship doesn't end at handover. We provide ongoing support, remote diagnostics and system updates - so your smart lighting continues to perform flawlessly long after installation day.
Our Installation Process
We follow a structured, six-stage smart lighting installation process that ensures every project is delivered on time, on budget, and to the highest standard. Here's what to expect when you work with Home Automate.
Consultation & Site Survey
Every project begins with a free, no-obligation consultation. We visit your property or review your architectural plans for a new build to understand how you use each room, your aesthetic preferences and any specific requirements such as accessibility needs or security priorities. This typically takes around an hour and gives us everything we need to start the design process.
Lighting Design & Specification
Using the information gathered during your consultation, our design team produces a detailed lighting plan. This includes fixture positions, switch and sensor locations, circuit layouts and a full hardware specification. For new builds, we coordinate directly with your architect and electrician to ensure our design integrates seamlessly with the wider build programme. You'll receive clear wiring diagrams and a comprehensive quotation before any work begins.
First Fix Cabling
During the first fix stage - typically while walls and ceilings are still open - we install the structured cabling that forms the backbone of your lighting system. This includes dedicated lighting circuits, data cabling for smart switches, and sensor wiring. For new builds, this work runs in parallel with the main electrical first fix. Proper first fix cabling is what separates a truly integrated smart lighting setup from a system limited by its wiring.
Second Fix & Device Installation
Once plastering and decorating are complete, we return to install all visible hardware: RGBW LED downlights, pendant fixtures, LED strip lighting, smart switches, keypads and motion sensors. Every component is positioned precisely according to the design specification, and all wiring is neatly terminated in the central automation cabinet.
Programming & Commissioning
With the hardware in place, our engineers programme your entire lighting system. This includes configuring lighting scenes, setting dimming curves for each fixture type, programming motion sensor behaviour, scheduling automated routines and integrating with any other smart home systems. We test every circuit, every scene and every sensor to ensure flawless operation throughout your home.
Handover & Training
On handover day, we walk you through your new smart lighting system in person. You'll learn how to select and adjust scenes, use the app, control lighting with voice commands, and make simple changes yourself. We also provide written documentation and a direct line to our support team. Most of our clients are confident and comfortable with their system within the first few days.

New Build vs Retrofit Installation
The approach to smart lighting installation differs significantly depending on whether your property is a new build or an existing home. We have extensive experience with both scenarios and can recommend the best solution for your situation.
New Build Smart Lighting
A new build gives you the greatest flexibility for smart lighting installation. With open walls and ceilings during the construction phase, we can run dedicated structured cabling to every light fixture, switch position and sensor location. This wired approach - using systems such as Loxone or KNX — delivers the most reliable and responsive lighting automation possible.
We work alongside your builder from the early design stages, coordinating with architects and electricians to ensure the cabling infrastructure is installed at the right time. New build projects also benefit from lower installation costs, since cabling can be routed before walls are closed up - avoiding the expense of retrospective work.
Retrofit Smart Lighting
Already living in your home? Retrofit smart lighting installation brings the same intelligent control to existing properties — without the need for major building work. We use a combination of wireless technologies such as Loxone Air, KNX RF, Lutron RadioRA 3 and Control4 to add automated lighting with minimal disruption.
In a retrofit, smart switches replace your existing light switches, wireless sensors are fitted discreetly, and a compact automation controller is installed in a convenient location. Where possible, we also utilise any existing wiring to maximise the capabilities of your system. The result is the same scene control, scheduling and integration — just delivered through wireless smart lighting technology rather than new cabling.
